Parma Park
This nearly 200-acre open space features many of Santa Barbara’s native landscapes, including chaparral, woodlands, grassland, and scrublands. Situated in the foothills of the Santa Ynez Range, Parma Park bridges urban areas to the Los Padres National Forest.
Italian entrepreneur Giovanni Parma purchased the land in the late 1800s for use as a cattle ranch and olive orchard. Giovanni’s sons, John and Harold, donated the property to the City of Santa Barbara in 1973 for use as a public park. In 2002, the Parma Family set up the Parma Park Trust to help fund the park's ongoing management.
An extensive project was completed in 2024 to improve and expand the park’s trail network, many of which were former cattle trails for Parma Ranch. Today, there are more than 7 miles of trails for equestrians and hikers to use. The park also has two designated landing places for hang gliders and paragliders.
