Alice Keck Park Memorial Garden Improvements

Crews will work to remove physical barriers, such as uneven pathways, trip hazards, and narrow travel routes, to improve safety and ADA access throughout the park. Improvements include improved pathways, new handrails, updated signage, and the creation of companion seating to allow space for a wheelchair next to existing benches. A new area will be created near the pond so wheelchair users can safely approach and view this unique park feature.

Park benches, light poles, and perimeter fencing will be repaired and refreshed with fresh paint to restore their original intended look.

Alice Keck Park Memorial Garden has long been known for its diverse collection of plants. Staff will restore some of the garden’s original plantings and add new plants where the original plantings are no longer suitable.

In partnership with the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden, one of the park’s garden beds has been planted exclusively with native plants. This collaboration aims to demonstrate the beauty native plants can provide alongside a diverse variety of plants from all over the world.

A weekly volunteer program allows gardeners of all skill levels to learn how to care for the variety of plants within the park. This program runs from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. every Wednesday and the first Saturday of each month. Learn more on our Volunteer Opportunities webpage.
