Tips for Purchasing a Tennis and Pickleball Annual Membership:

• For a smoother experience, use a computer or tablet.
• Make sure your date of birth and mailing address are up to date in your PerfectMind account to receive the correct membership fee.
• Only residents living within Santa Barbara City limits are eligible for the resident discount.
• All memberships are valid from the date of purchase until June 30, 2026.
• To buy memberships for family members, ensure they are added to your account first. Add each membership to your cart individually, then complete one payment. Detailed instructions are below.

How to Purchase a Tennis and Pickleball Annual Membership:

1. Log in to your PerfectMind account.
2. Go to Membership, then select Municipal Tennis and Pickleball Membership.
3. Click Add to Cart and proceed to Checkout.

To Purchase a Membership for a Family Member:

1. Go to My Profile
2. Select My Info.
3. Select the family member’s name.
4. Select Buy Membership.
5. Choose Municipal Tennis and Pickleball Membership.
6. Add to cart and proceed to Checkout.

How to Show Proof of Purchase Until You Receive Your Card:

If you have purchased a membership but have not yet received your card, you can show proof of purchase at the entrance by following these steps:

1. Log in to your PerfectMind account.
2. Go to My Profile > My Info.
3. Select your name.
4. Locate your Muni Membership.
5. Take a screenshot and save it to your phone.

Receiving Your Membership Card:

• Your new membership card can be collected from the Muni Monitor at the parking lot entrance.
• Please allow 3-5 business days for your card to be created and ready for pickup.

The site of the Municipal Tennis Center complex was acquired in parcels from 1909-1913. The clubhouse and four courts were constructed as a Works Progress Administration (WPA) project at a cost of $95,000, and opened May 15, 1937. The clubhouse contained a lounge, showers, lockers and offices. The first Santa Barbara Open Tournament was held August 28, 1938.

The facility at one time was the center of Southern California tennis tournament competition and contained the first lighted courts in the area when five additional courts were added prior to World War II. The facility was remodeled in 1957 and three additional courts were constructed in the 1960's.

The tennis stadium was closed in the 1970's due to unsafe conditions. Half the stadium was demolished and the other half renovated in 1980, and new landscaping was added in 1983. Lights were installed on tennis courts 1-3 in 1999 when the old lights on courts 7-11 were removed. Cal Trans installed the sound wall in 2009 during the 101 freeway expansion.

The Municipal Tennis Center made it possible for UCSB, SBCC, Westmont and SB High School to participate in team competition until they built their own tennis facilities on their respective campuses.

Open Play Guidelines

• Singles matches, practice, drills, instruction, private round-robins, or ladders are prohibited if others are waiting to use courts.
• Players interested in joining Open Play should find a court where the level of play matches their ability.
• Enter the court between points, and wait on the bench until the current game ends.
• Players waiting on the bench rotate in and players on court rotate out after each game to 11 (win by 2).
• Players may not refuse to allow others to rotate in based on perceived skill level or for any other reason.
• One player waiting: the winning team stays for the next game; waiting player rotates in.
• Two players waiting: the winning team stays for the next game; the losing team vacates the court (or wait on the bench for the next game); waiting challengers come on to play.
• Three or Four players waiting: an equal number of players from the prior game vacate the court at the conclusion of the game; waiting players come on to play.
• When players are waiting, winners of two consecutive games must sit out one game, or move to another court.
