Mission Historical Park

This park contains ruins of Mission Santa Barbara’s old reservoir, aqueduct, tannery vats, filter house, grist mill, and pottery. But it's best known for the southern portion of the park, which is home to the stunning A. C. Postel Memorial Rose Garden. Known by many as the "Mission Rose Garden," this local go-to spot has over 1,500 rose bushes and large grassy areas for lawn picnicking. The rose garden may be reserved for special events.

This city park is operated independently of Old Mission Santa Barbara across the street.

Interested in Volunteering?

Join our rose garden volunteer program by contacting ParksAndRec@SantaBarbaraCA.gov. Experienced volunteers are assigned a section of the garden to regularly prune and care for their roses.

In addition to the weekly volunteer program, Parks and Recreation holds a Rose Pruning Day annually in January that brings many volunteers together to prune the garden in preparation for new spring growth. No special experience is required to volunteer at this event, as pruning demonstrations will be provided.
