Body

Parks and Recreation offers a variety of volunteer opportunities. If you care deeply about community service, love the outdoors, appreciate our city parks, or want to learn about horticulture or restoration work, we have the job for you! Volunteer opportunities include general gardening, native habitat restoration, beach and creek clean-ups, rose care, planter refurbishing, trail maintenance, and weeding.

Weekly Volunteer Opportunities

Alice Keck Park Memorial Garden

When: Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the first Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. *Events are cancelled for rain
Who: Drop-in volunteers are welcome; no pre-registration or experience needed.
Where: Meet at the big shed on the Santa Barbara Street side of the park.
What to Expect: Light pruning, weeding, deadheading, mulching, and raking under the direction of onsite staff.
What to Bring: Water and sun protection, hand tools and gloves if you prefer to use your own.

A.C. Postel Memorial Rose Garden

When: At your convenience on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.
Who: No experience necessary, but pre-registration is required.
What to Expect: Regular pruning and care for your assigned section of the garden. Staff will provide training on specific tasks as needed. 
What to Bring: Hand tools, gloves, water, and sun protection.
