Body

Parks and Recreation offers a variety of volunteer opportunities. If you care deeply about community service, love the outdoors, appreciate our city parks, or want to learn about horticulture or restoration work, we have the job for you! Volunteer opportunities include general gardening, native habitat restoration, beach and creek clean-ups, rose care, planter refurbishing, trail maintenance, and weeding.

Weekly Volunteer Opportunities

Alice Keck Park Memorial Garden

When: Monday - Wednesday, first Saturday of the month | 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. *these events will be cancelled for rain
Who: Drop-in volunteers are welcome; no experience needed.
Where: Meet at the big shed on the Santa Barbara St. side of the park.
What to expect: Light pruning, weeding, deadheading, mulching, and raking under the direction of onsite staff.
What to bring: Water and sun protection; hand tools and gloves if you have them, a limited supply is available.

When: At your convenience
Who: Experienced volunteers only; contact ParksAndRec@SantaBarbaraCA.gov for information on becoming a rose garden volunteer.
What to expect: Regularly prune and care for your assigned section of the garden. Additional direction is provided by staff members when needed.
What to bring: Hand tools, gloves, water, and sun protection.
